DC:0-5 Virtual Clinical Training Series w/Reflective Case Consultation

December 11, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm EST

October 30 – December 11, 2023
This training consists of 3 days of Clinical Training, followed by 2 Reflective Case Consultation sessions. It’s a requirement to attend all 5 days.

These offerings are a part of The Connecting Communities: Support for the MA Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health grant funding from MA Executive Office of Health and Human Services. The series is facilitated by: Jayne Singer, PhD, IECMH-E and Lisa Garcia, LMHC, IMH-E

Description:

DC:0-5, the Diagnostic Classification of Mental Health and Developmental Disorders of Infancy and Early Childhood, is the diagnostic manual for children ages birth through 5 years, developed and published by ZERO TO THREE. The manual is designed to help mental health and other professionals recognize mental health and developmental challenges in infants and young children and use diagnostic criteria effectively for classification, case formulation, and intervention.

Attendees will learn about the multi-axial approach to diagnosis, an approach that is developmentally informed, relationship-based, and contextually and culturally grounded. Training is provided by trainers who have been trained by ZERO TO THREE.

The two Reflective Case Consultation sessions will allow participants to further gain confidence in utilizing this tool, have more time to practice using the manual and have an opportunity to reflect on using the DC: 0-5 in a particular case.

Who is this training for?

Any professional – clinicians, social workers, psychiatrists, family partners, community health workers, pediatricians, etc. – working in MA that works with children 0-5 and their families, that would like to deepen their knowledge on the different factors to consider during engagement and assessment of young children, like development, culture, relationships, etc.

Objectives:

  • Participants will be able to identify two rationales for the importance of a diagnostic classification of mental health disorders for infants and young children.
  • Participants will be able to name two key elements of infant and early childhood mental health that are reflected in DC:0-5.
  • Participants will be able to name the DC:0-5 five axes and what each contributes to diagnosing mental health disorders in young children.
  • Participants will be able to name two new clinical diagnoses in DC:0-5 and identify the key symptoms.
  • Participants will be able to identify one difference and one similarity between DC:0-5 and the DSM-5.

Manuals:

A digital version of the DC: 0-5 manual will be provided, thanks to the generous contribution of the Boston Public Health Commission.
