FAN Training – Facilitating Attuned Interactions

May 14 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm EDT

Virtual Event Virtual Event

The Department of Mental Health (DMH) is sponsoring this training delivered by the Children’s Trust.

Audience:

This training is for staff working with and/or on behalf of young children and their families. If you work with families of young children, this training is for you! We do want a team of 3-4 participants, with different levels of supervisory roles, so you can more easily implement and expand this model in your agency/work.

Description:

The Massachusetts Department of Mental Health is sponsoring the Children’s Trust’s training on the Facilitating Attuned Interactions approach, which we refer to as FAN. Developed by Erikson Institute, the intent of the FAN approach is to strengthen the provider-parent relationship, resulting in parents who are attuned to their children and ready to try new ways of relating to them. The FAN approach ensures practitioners read cues from parents and themselves and thus, provide empathetic and appropriate responses.

The FAN training provides family support and clinical staff with a framework that brings reflective practice to life by supporting staff in being more attuned to the emotional experience of themselves, their supervisees, and the families they serve. Participants will learn how to use Empathic Listening when the caregiver is experiencing strong feelings, Collaborative Exploration when they are ready to think about a concern, Capacity Building when the caregiver is ready to act on their concern, and Integration when they can reflect on their experience and see it in new ways. Please read more about this approach in the drop-down menu in the application link and feel free to reach out with any questions.

After this three-day virtual training, the staff will begin the process of working with their supervisors to reflect on their experiences using the FAN by completing FAN Self-Reflection Tools and FAN Learning Tools.  Please find more information about the trainingexpectations of participation, and the FAN approach.
