Trauma, Substance Use and Personality Disorders

Training Description:

We will explore the impact of trauma, the opioid crisis, and working with clients with challenging issues who have been diagnosed with personality disorders (PD). We will discuss the connection between Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) and Personality disorders. PD is defined and common characteristics are addressed. We will explore the “reframing” of PD and Trauma. Lastly, we will discuss the challenge of working with a client with PD and self-care.

Training Objectives:

After participating in this training, participants will be able to: define personality disorders, describe common characteristics of personality disorders, describe the connection between trauma and personality disorders, and identify strategies for working with clients diagnosed/misdiagnosed with a PD.

MA Registered Nurse Program meets the requirements for nursing contact hours as specified by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing 244 CMR 5.04.
