The Mobile Crisis Intervention Core Training Series is 3-hours and comprised of three learning sessions. One session each on: understanding the crisis response, crisis de-escalation, and therapeutic crisis intervention. Understanding the crisis response provides a basic understanding of how the crisis is experienced in the brain and body and the crisis team’s overarching approach when responding to the crisis. Crisis de-escalation provides learners with an understanding of various strategies to help an individual move from a heightened state of arousal to a calmer state. Therapeutic crisis response covers key components of building rapid rapport, engaging in crisis assessment, providing stabilization, and co-creating an intervention plan. Together these three learning sessions weave in concepts from trauma-informed care, harm reduction, equity, and inclusion. They provide a foundational base of knowledge for responding to a behavioral health crisis.
After participating in this training participants will be able to:
- Describe crisis and its impact on the body
- List ways to stay grounded before, during, and after crisis
- Describe the escalation and de-escalation processes
- List three core components of a therapeutic crisis intervention
- List key factors for providing an individualized crisis intervention
